Psalm 111:10: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever.”
Devo in a nutshell:
This year on Sunday nights we have been studying from the book of Deuteronomy. During our study we have watched as God, through Moses, has shared with the nation of Israel His desire for them to love Him and obey Him.
The passage today speaks of “the fear of the Lord.”
What does that mean and how does that have anything to do with our loving and obeying the Lord?
Many times when we think of fear we picture ourselves shrinking back from someone or something. But the fear of the Lord is a reverential awe that we owe God simply because He is the Lord. It is a respect for and a awe of God.
When we have a reverential respect and awe of God we can’t help but love Him and that love leads us the obey Him.
God wants more than an external obedience, He desires us to do His will from the heart; which is done because of our love for Him and that love springs forth when we recognize God for who He is and give Him the respect, honor and awe that He is worthy to receive.
In a day and time when we seem to be lacking respect of authority and finding ourselves standing in awe of mere mortal men and women; who do some pretty remarkable things. May we not forget God does not just do pretty remarkable; He does the impossible. He has done what no one is able to do. Our God spoke everything into existence. He said let there be and there was!!! Our God is God and gods, King of Kings, Lord of lords, great, mighty, powerful and awesome……and the list can go on and on.
Needless to say He is Worthy of our Fear, our Love and our obedience.
Lord thank you for being so Awesome!
Have have a great day in the Lord.
Psalm 139:13-14: “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderful made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Devo in a nutshell:
Some years ago a documentary special came out with the latest research findings about men and women. Everyone was waiting with great anticipation to find out what this latest groundbreaking research would tell us and how it would help us advance into the 21st century.
After a few hours the moment of truth came and the researches shared, “Men and women are made differently!”
I burst into laughter!!! This is a fundamental truth I have shared with couples during pre-marital counseling for 20 years. God made you different and each of you bring to the marriage relationship something very special and unique. You are different in anatomy, in thoughts, in expectations, in communication and many more ways.
But thinking deeper into this passage I realize that not only are men and women created different, everyone is created different by God and as different as each of us are; we are also each one special just the way we are. God made us the way we are!!! And God doesn’t make mistakes.
You may have been told you’re not special, that your ordinary, you’re this or that… let me remind you today you are special!!! You are important!!! You are loved!!!
Never let the world or anyone in the world tell you that you’re nothing because you are something special! Special because the God of all creation designed you just the way you are and because He so loved you that He gave His only Son to die in your place.
When others tell you’re just ordinary remember our passage, “you are fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Lord thank You that You didn’t make everyone like me. Differences among us is what makes life so interesting.
Have a great day in the Lord.
