Great Responsibility

Deuteronomy 6:6-7: “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them in your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Devo in a nutshell:

Have you ever stopped and thought about what a great privilege and responsibility we have to teach our children and grandchildren about the Lord?
Our passage today tells us this is something we should be doing.
But before we can teach our children and grandchildren about the Lord, He must be on our hearts!!! In other words we must have a personal and I would say intimate relationship with Him ourselves.
When we have that kind of relationship, then it becomes a part of who we are to share about who He is. We will see the importance, find the time and at every opportunity share about the Lord with them.
The passage says talk with them when you are at home and when you are on the road; at night and during the day. There is never a bad time to share about Jesus.
Make Jesus the number priority of your life and share Him. Understand what a great privilege we have been given!

Lord help me to alway realize that I am helping to raise the present as well as future generations.

Have a great day in the Lord

The Name of Jesus

Isaiah 9:6: “His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”

Devo in a nutshell:

When you hear the name Jesus, what do you think? Miracles, Salvation, Peace, Comfort, Joy, Hope, Abundant life, Love, Grace, Mercy….all of these and so much more I’m sure.
One of my favorite hymns is entitled, “There’s Just Something about that Name.” The name Jesus.
The one who raised Lazarus from the died, calmed the storm, heal the sick, and lives today in each and every believer and because of that we can have hope and peace.
When the world says worry we have comfort to know Jesus cares for us. He desires to take care of those things which burden us. We can box all our problems and worries up, seal the lid and place them all at the feet of Jesus.
In Jesus you will find exactly what you need for today. Go to Him and call on His Mighty Name and find the peace it brings.

Thank You, Father, that I can call on but most of all that I can count on You always.
There’s just something about that name!!!!! Having a bad day? Worrying? Concerned? Anxious? Hurting? Needing a friend?
Call out to Him today.

Have a great day in the Lord.

Consider it JOY

James 1:2: “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials.”

Devo in a nutshell:

Throughout Scripture we read time and time again of victory through troubles and suffering.
Helmut Thielicke, a German pastor and theologian, said this: “when we are rightly related to God, life is full of joyful uncertainty and expectancy….we do not know what God is going to do next; He packs our lives with surprises all the time. What a strange idea, “joyful uncertain.” Most of us view uncertainty as a cause for anxiety, not joy. Yet the call to expectancy rings true. The idea of standing on tiptoe to see what God is going to do next can transform our way of seeing.”

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if each morning we jumped out of bed, stood on tiptoes to see what God was going to do next!! Instead of worrying about what may or may not happen next.
When we see life like that, our cup will surely run over and life will be joyful!

Lord help me to look at life from Your perspective and to see You at work in all things.

Have a great day in the Lord.

Let others see Jesus in you

JAMES 1:22: “Prove yourselves doers of the Word, and not merely hearers who delude (deceive) themselves.”

Devo in a nutshell:

Susannah Wesley once said, “there are two things you do with the gospel: one is you believe it and two you live it.”
Its good to be reminded of the importance of not only hearing and believing the word but the importance, power and influence of living the Word.
Years ago Charles Barkley (professional basketball player) said, “I am not a role model.” After saying that people came out in great numbers, some defending his statement and others opposing his statement.
You may feel like Charles Barkley; that you are not a role model. But let me tell you whether you like it or not someone out there is watching you. You are making a lasting impression on them. It may be your children, a coworker, your neighbor or a stranger you pass by on your way to the grocery store. But you can rest assured that someone is watching how you live out your faith.
Our passage says “be doers of the word not just hearers.” In other words live out what you believe. Don’t just talk it walk it!!!!

Thank you Lord for allowing us to understand the importance of the way we live.
Father help me live in such a way that my life lets others see You in me.

Have a great day in the Lord.
